I am a designer and builder in Durham, North Carolina.
I’ve been in the industry for more than 20 years.
I came to the industry with a background in start-up companies ranging from digital media to renewable energy.
My construction work exists at the margins of the markets.
I’ve executed ambitious projects in historic preservation, green building, and affordable housing.
I am particularly focused on purpose-based community development.
I am active in advocacy with leading national non-profits committed to building better cities, including the National Townbuilder’s Association, Incremental Development Alliance, the Congress for New Urbanism, and Southern Urbanism.
I’ve written two books.
I’ve taught Green Building and Building Science at Duke University.
I am a pretty good builder, but my passion is design. I license stock plans for one of the best traditional architects in the country.
I have been active in zoning reform movements locally and nationally through the New Urbanist movement.
I am committed to bringing great architecture back to my city.
